Reality Television

Although Janet and Daniel first officially entered the world of reality television at Stephen J. Cannell Productions, on the show “SCANDALS” (ABC), it could be said that they were doing it even before that with their award-winning documentaries. But it was on “SCANDALS II” that they really pushed the envelope of dramatic recreations, using SAG actors and shooting with an IATSE crew.

From that Daniel brought his reenactment skills to “RESCUE 911”, then from there to FOX for “BEYOND THE CALL”, which further pushed the envelope of dramatic recreations, where he was called upon to take a real airline disaster with a commercial jetliner out-of-control, and do it on a reality budget. The result was a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat production.

Daniel and Janet temporarily left the world of reality television after that to concentrate on their movies, but were lured back when TLC ordered its first scripted dramatic show. Once again, Daniel and Janet re-defined the concept of reality with “UNTOLD STORIES OF THE ER”, where they took real stories with real doctors, and completely dramatized them. The result was a series that was both a financial and commerical success, and that received numerous pick-ups. They like to call it a dramatic-reality hybrid.
